Being homeless can be very difficult. Young people have to face barriers such as:
Level of income: Getting assistance from Centrelink, you require identification.
Finding somewhere appropriate to live. It can be difficult to privately rent if you are under 18 years of age.
Affordable accommodation
Health issues: Eating food. Also accessing health services such as the doctor, dentist, mental health services. Being hygienic, and presentable.
Employment: Trying to get interviews, keeping a job (most don’t have a phone, or there is no credit on their mobile)
Education: Staying at school, hard to concentrate when you are trying to find somewhere to live.
Safety: Violence on the streets, competition for the warmest and driest areas.
Alcohol and Drug use.
Legal issues: To survive, some people may resort to stealing or prostitution. Some homeless people may not get access to appropriate legal representation.
